Success Story: KAHINDI KARISA

KAHINDI
At 73, Kahindi Karisa lived a life marked by loneliness and hardship. His fragile thatched house was on the verge of collapse, exposing him to rain, cold, snakes, and constant insecurity. His wife had been forced to seek refuge elsewhere, visiting only occasionally, while his son struggled far away without work. Kahindi’s health declined, and he battled high blood pressure alone in a home that no longer offered safety or dignity.

Children from his extended family once found joy in his home, but as the structure became too dangerous, they were removed, leaving him isolated.

Through the Homes of Hope program, in partnership with Shelter Equity (USA), Kahindi’s life has been transformed. Today, he proudly stands in front of his new home — a symbol of resilience, dignity, and renewed hope. His family received: 🏠 A safe, dignified house 🚽 A toilet and bathroom for proper sanitation 🔆 Solar installation for clean, reliable energy 🚲 A bicycle for transport and mobility 💧 Access to clean water for health and daily living

The completion of this home brought a smile back to Kahindi’s face. His wife and grandchildren can now return, restoring companionship and family warmth. What was once a risky shelter has become a place of safety, joy, and community.

Kahindi’s story reminds us that together, we are not just building houses — we are restoring dignity, protecting health, and rekindling hope.
