This year, we celebrate the incredible transformation of Tizo Karisa, a resilient elder whose life has been renewed through the gift of safe housing.

         

Tizo’s Journey

For nearly nine decades, Tizo endured hardship and uncertainty. Her old home leaked badly during the rains, forcing her and her grandchildren to seek shelter in neighbors’ houses. Nights were spent curled in corners, waiting for morning to come. She had lost hope of ever living in a proper house—until the Homes of Hope Project changed her story.

Her words capture the depth of this transformation:

“I am over 89 years old. I now live in the new home with my three grandchildren. Before this, we often had to sleep in neighbors’ houses because our old home leaked badly during the rains. I had lost hope of ever living in a proper house, so this gift was a complete surprise. My old house would flood, and I would curl up in a corner until morning. Now, I have solar lighting, a toilet, and even a bicycle—things I never dreamed of. God remembered me in my old age through you. I lack words to fully express my gratitude.”

Today, Tizo’s new home is more than shelter—it is dignity, comfort, and renewed hope. With solar lighting, proper facilities, and even a bicycle, she and her grandchildren now live with security and joy. What was once a life of despair has become a story of resilience, gratitude, and faith restored.
